Job Description

Engineer team member tasked with standing up multiple metal AM powder bed fusion systems and qualifying the facility for medical production. The role will involve installing and calibrating laser powder bed fusion (PBF) metal systems, working with OEM technicians to verify performance, diagnose and troubleshoot issues, develop machine parameters, establish statistical substantiation for material properties and support transition to production. Candidate will be part of initial AM metal deployment in Jabil and will be heavily involved in startup activities including site planning and prep, equipment installation as well as creation of training materials and training new team members of AM operations. Desired candidate will have 3 + years with specific experience working or conducting research with metal PBF systems and ideally familiar with multiple system OEM’s.



Responsible for metal additive manufacturing processes supporting all manufacturing aspects from build file and consumables to finished printed product through post-processing.
Manage scheduling and planning systems to ensure team has clear priorities.
Establish and document a nominal build process that meets quality standards. Engage with key stakeholders to ensure issues are addressed, contained, and resolved. Efficiently resolve non-conformances as they arise and aggressively track down root cause following through with corrective actions
Prepare engineering documentation necessary for the transition from development to production including: operational instructions, process flow diagrams, standard repair plans, schematic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
Responsible for meeting production rate and quality goals. Communicate roadblocks to engineers and technician teams early enough to react, contain, and recover. Coordinate with technician leadership to ensure resources are flexed to meet production goals. Track and drive reductions in planned and unplanned downtime across additive machines.
Develop and implement tooling and engineering controls into production processes to further improve reliability and reduce cost and lead time.
Clearly document platform configuration changes in order to maintain effective configuration management and revision control.

Ability and disposition to train others on 3D printing and associated processes such as heat treatment, post processing and resultant material properties
Ability to train others to use laboratory equipment
Must be highly motivated, hardworking, structured and disciplined to achieve deadlines
Experience performing metallurgical evaluations of additively manufactured alloys.  Or, at least 3 years industrial setting where a primary function was understanding the impact of heat treatment, welding, or casting processes on microstructure and material performance of nickel alloys used in the aeroengine and industrial gas turbine industries.
Understands key 3D printing and heat treatment process parameters and their effect on Titanium alloy microstructure development and mechanical performance.
Metallurgical understanding of conventionally produced nickel, titanium, ferrous, and non-ferrous alloys commensurate with experience.  Particularly emphasis on solidification (casting, welding) and heat treatment related metallurgy.
Capable of operating a wide variety of material test and characterization equipment, including but not limited to room and elevated temperature mechanical testing.
Ability to design experiments, generate and collect data, analyse data using various analysis methods
Ability to generate and clearly present technical data to both technical and non-technical audience

Bachelor’s or higher degree in related engineering discipline with 5 plus years engineering experience.
1-3 years of experience with additive manufacturing production.
Strong CAD skills and familiarity with at least one major CAD program such as Solidworks, Catia, NX or equivalent.
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical subject in writing and verbally

3+ years of metal additive manufacturing experience.
Experience with Materialise Magics, EOSPrint, 3DExpert strongly preferred
Hands-on experience operating laser powder bed fusion platforms.
Experience operating laser powder bed fusion platforms
Experience creating AM metal training documents
Experience training others to use metal PBF systems
Experience using standard PPE for metal powders, including reactives
Tangible demonstration of projects driven from design concept, through prototype test, and successfully integrated into production manufacturing.
Experience in a fast-paced, iterative design environment within the aerospace, marine or automotive industries.
Tooling design experience including fixtures, shop aides, and/or metallic powder handling devices.
Lean manufacturing, or equivalent production optimization experience.
Ability to perform manufacturing cost trade analysis optimizing machine capital, labor, and process consumables.
Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly present recommendations.
Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment.
