Fortify is an advanced manufacturing startup creating a new generation of custom, high performance composites. Fortify uses magnetic fields to control the orientation of carbon fiber in a 3D printing process to finely tune mechanical properties. Our Digital Composite Manufacturing platform tightly integrates FEA software, 3D printing, magnetic fields, and advanced materials to print composites with optimized microstructures, producing high-strength, tightly-toleranced parts. This technology will enable Fortify to target a broad range of industries including injection mold tooling, automotive and aerospace.
Summary of Position
Application development is at the cornerstone of Fortify’s product and market strategy. In order to push this initiative forward, we are hiring a high-performing and driven applications engineer to provide technical leadership in the design and manufacturing of 3D-printed parts to meet customer and market needs.
As an Applications Engineer, you will engage in experimentation and collaboration to develop processes and best-practices for Foritfy’s Fluxprint process. Our Applications Engineer will also regularly work with Fortify’s printer design team and material scientists to identify system failure modes and improvements. As the bridge between engineering and business development, you will also publish white papers and technical documents to provide meaningful, helpful, and inspiring content for our customers and the additive manufacturing community. At Fortify, you will be part of a fast-paced team of engineers creating a product that will expand the boundaries of modern manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design and 3D print parts for Fortify customers and internal projects
-Design responsibilities will include injection mold tools, prototypes, and end-use parts
Identify and develop case studies and applications that leverage Fortify’s competitive advantages
-Develop detailed test plans to highlight data-driven advantages over competitive technologies
Support the Business Development team through opportunity evaluation and setting technical expectations
-Identify market and specific application opportunities across a broad range of industries
Identify system failure modes and improvements for the printer design team
Interface with customers to communicate about project requirements
Exposure to 3D printing, machining, injection molding, and other manufacturing methods
Self-motivated individual with strong attention to detail, creativity and sharp problem-solving skills
Excellent written and communication skills
Experience interfacing with customers and clients
Preferred additional skills
Experience with: materials, mechanical design, electronics, process characterization, or customer support
DFM for: 3D printing, machining, and injection molding
Experience with specialized facets of design for additive manufacturing such as generative design
