Job Description Overview:  3D Printing Systems Technician


Pay: $16.00 – $17.00 per hour

I. Position Mission

Coordinate production of 3D printed parts using build planning software to meet Quality and On-Time Delivery goals. Perform Quality Control inspections on 3D printed parts.  Coordinate with Sales to create work instruction documentation to convey customer requirements to Production staff. Assist 3D Printing Technicians with programming and operating 3D Printing Equipment.

Immediate Supervisor: Operations Manager, Shop Manager

Other key interfaces: 3D Printing Technicians, Sales, All Employees in general

Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Fast-paced production environment.  Requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting (weights up to 50 lbs) and stretching.  Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate painting, printing and processing equipment. The environment is not climate controlled. PPE is required, including prolonged use of a respirator.

FLSA Status

This is a part or full-time position requiring consistent dependable attendance.  This position is not exempt from overtime.

III. Tasks description – Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Build Creation for 3D Prints: 50% of position responsibility

At the direction of the Operations Manager and AM Programmer; complete all duties as assigned

Plan and execute build creation daily based on production demand using Materialize Magics, Streamics and other software to meet on-time delivery, nesting density, printer uptime and quality goals

Orient parts for desired finishes in powder bed technologies

Orient and support parts for desired finishes in resin technologies

Perform final inspection and programing of 3D printers to ensure build success

Evaluate and perform corrections needed for reprints of failed parts

3D Printing Production Technician: 30% of position responsibility

Perform quality inspection of 3D printed and other parts

Sort and route batches of 3D printed parts through the production process

Duties also may include but are not limited to; unpacking builds, bead blasting parts, processing orders and performing maintenance on 3D printing equipment

Maintain focus on safety, ensuring self and other team members are following safety policies and adhering to PPE standards

Ensure all products are being produced to a high level of quality and orders meet production deadlines

Be working at all times, either performing duties to complete orders or maintaining housekeeping/6S

Communicate all concerns, issues or observations related to safety, quality or continuous improvement

Follow all standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and best practices

Appropriately manage timecard and schedule

Facility Upkeep: 10% of position responsibility

Assist Avid production team with all cleaning and maintenance operations

Continuous Improvement: 10% of position responsibility

Identify and communicate potential process improvements – assist Engineering Technician, Operations Manager, and Shop Manager on all improvement initiatives

Identify cost savings opportunities (labor and yield) – assist Operations Manager and Shop Manager on all cost savings initiatives.

Commitment to good communication between employees across all shifts to ensure process changes and improvements are implemented consistently and effectively

IV. Additional Task and Responsibilities

Other duties and special projects as assigned

Work directly with the Operations Manager, Shop Manager and others on special projects as needed.

V. Skills, Intellectual Demands and Job Requirements:


Prior experience using CAD or 3D modeling software is highly preferred

Professional manufacturing or warehouse experience preferred but not required

Experience in 3D printing is preferred but not required

Familiarity with Google or Microsoft Suite

Knowledge of professional email communication

Must be able to pass a background test

Must be able to pass a drug test

Vaccinated against COVID 19 preferred


Fit for doing laborious work for up to 12-hour shifts

Willing to work on a rotating shift, for long hours and overtime as necessary

Willing to learn and put in their best efforts for production

Capable of working in demanding situations when required

Able to lift and carry up to 49lbs unassisted and 50+ lbs with an assist

Must be able to communicate effectively in English
